This can have several causes. It is possible that you are searching too strictly, that is with many search criteria. Remove a few less important search criteria and see if there are any results. Keep in mind that the search query is 'mutual', that is to say: it only shows people where you also meet their search settings. In practice this results in fewer search results, but they are much more relevant.
